Having surgery was one of the biggest decisions of my life, and there was so much I thought about.
I decided to write a blog about my experiences in having lipodema surgery at Hanse-Klinik in Spring 2016, to share what I found out along the way. I hope this blog will reassure other people about travelling overseas for lipodema surgery (in particular going from the UK to Hanse as that is what I'm blogging about!). I've tried to cover all aspects from what I did to prepare, to the experience of being in Germany and how my recovery has progressed.
My blog is not only designed to help you if you are going to have surgery at Hanse, but also to be informative if you are deciding whether to have liposuction for lipodema, by showing what my tumescent liposuction experience has been and what I am learning about the research into lipodema.
My blog therefore includes some other thoughts on lipodema as I continue my post surgery journey, such as the merits of different compression garments.

Thank you so much. I found your clean breakdown much more clean and can now envision this as a possibility. Did you have your consultation on the day of surgery or did u have to fly out seperatly?
ReplyDeleteHello. Thanks for the feedback. Hanse offer you the choice of consultation the day before surgery or in a seepage trip.
ReplyDeleteI had my consultation the day before my surgery. I exchanged a lot of emails in advance so we covered most questions etc before I got there.
I do think that it may have been more reassuring as I waited for my surgery date if I'd already been to the clinic, seen it and discussed some questions face to face, so I think if you can make two trips that can be a good thing too.
